I have been with First Aid Safety for 8 years, but my first aid journey started in 2001 when I volunteered at a local organisation. I have always been drawn to roles where I could make a real difference in people’s lives, and first aid training offered exactly that. Over the past 23 years, I have delivered thousands of courses in adult and paediatric first aid, both in person and online, helping learners gain the confidence to respond effectively in emergencies.
What I enjoy most about my role is seeing learners’ confidence grow. Many start courses feeling nervous, but by the end, they understand that even simple actions like calling for help or starting CPR can save a life. That shift in mindset is what makes the job so meaningful.
One memorable moment happened during a first aid session when we were practising the recovery position. One learner ended up placing their partner in a position that looked more like yoga than first aid. They mumbled, “I think I’m in a pretzel now!” and everyone laughed. Moments like this are a great reminder that learning through laughter can make these life-saving skills even more memorable.
I hope every learner leaves my courses knowing that first aid is not about being perfect, but about staying calm and taking action when it matters most. Ultimately, I want every one of my learners to walk away feeling capable, aware and ready to act swiftly if the situation ever arises.
Travelling is my favourite pastime outside of teaching. I regularly visit various parts of the UK, from Dorset and Devon to the remote parts of Scotland. I also enjoy long trail walks, which give me time to disconnect, and I also have fond memories of Northern India, which I hope to visit again soon.
