AG - Head of Therapy @ First Bridge School
“One of the main reasons we chose to work with First Aid Safety was how responsive and efficient they were from the beginning. The process moved quickly, communication was clear throughout, and their availability meant we could book and organise the training without difficulty.
The training day ran smoothly, and staff feedback was very positive. We also appreciated their willingness to look beyond the course itself and help us explore an additional training requirement relevant to some of the pupils we support.
We would be very happy to work with them again in the future.”
Client Background
First Bridge School is a specialist independent primary school based in Chelsea Harbour, London, supporting pupils with autism and related developmental needs.
The school combines specialist education with therapeutic support, creating a structured and personalised learning environment for children with a broad range of individual needs.
Ahead of the new academic year, First Bridge School needed to arrange Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid training for a large group of staff during its September INSET day.
Challanges
At first glance, an enquiry received in mid-July for training in early September may not appear particularly late.
Within the education sector, however, the first few days of September are among the busiest dates in the training calendar.
Schools commonly use their INSET days before pupils return to complete mandatory and essential staff training. Many therefore secure their preferred dates months in advance.
For First Bridge School, this created several challenges.
Training 48 employees required four instructors
A fixed training window, an INSET day, provides very little flexibility
Supporting a new customer was particularly important; the organisation, communication and delivery reflected the standard of service we aim to provide from the outset
Maintaining instructor cover: A late instructor withdrawal created an additional challenge
The priority was simple, the school had committed its INSET day to the training, and we provide a service
Solution
Using our established instructor network, we sourced four trainers with the right experience to deliver the course.
Our approach included:
Drawing on a wider instructor network: Having access to a comprehensive bank of trainers gave us options when many instructors were already committed elsewhere.
Coordinating four instructors: We structured the delivery so all 48 staff members could complete their training on the school's INSET day.
Maintaining clear communication: We kept the school informed throughout the booking and organisation process, allowing the training to move from enquiry to confirmed delivery without unnecessary administrative friction.
On-site coordination: With a course of this scale, ensuring instructors, groups and resources were properly organised was particularly important.
The Training
A total of 35 First Bridge School staff members completed the Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid.
The training combined theory, instructor demonstrations, practical exercises, scenarios and Q & A sessions throughout the day.
Topics included key paediatric emergency situations and the practical skills staff may need when responding to an infant or child who becomes ill or injured.
The course also reinforced awareness of serious allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, an area that has taken on even greater importance for schools from September 2026.
Benedict’s Law and Allergy Safety in Schools
From the 2026–27 academic year, schools in England are subject to statutory allergy-safety requirements commonly referred to as Benedict’s Law.
The changes were introduced following campaigning after the death of five-year-old Benedict Blythe from an allergic reaction at school.
Schools are now expected to strengthen allergy policies and procedures, ensure staff receive appropriate allergy-awareness training and maintain suitable arrangements for emergency adrenaline auto-injectors.
The Results
35 staff members trained: The school completed a significant proportion of its paediatric first aid training requirement in a single INSET day.
Positive staff feedback: Written feedback received following the training was extremely positive across all groups.
Positive feedback from the school: When we contacted First Bridge School the following day, Andreea confirmed that staff feedback was positive and that the day ran smoothly from the school's perspective.
Responsive booking process: The school specifically highlighted our responsiveness, efficiency, clear communication and availability as important reasons for choosing us.
Competitive pricing: The school's feedback also highlighted that the pricing represented an important part of its decision when selecting a provider.
Most importantly, the outcome of the training was a success from the schools perspective.
Going Beyond the Original Brief
After the course, a member of the First Bridge School team, spoke to us about additional training relevant to some of the pupils the school supports.
The school staff uses carry mats to safely move pupils following seizure during the recovery phase and wanted to explore whether training could be provided for such circumstances.
We subsequently researched the available training options and responded promptly to the contact at the school.
This led us to explore developing a short, tailored theory-and-practical session that combines seizure first aid with appropriate post-recovery movement using the school's carry mats.
For First Bridge School, this additional support demonstrated that our role wasn't limited to delivering the course they had originally booked.
A Responsive Training Partner for Schools
School training calendars create their own challenges.
INSET days are fixed, large numbers of staff may need training simultaneously, and September dates can disappear from instructor diaries months in advance.
The First Bridge School project showed the value of access to a broad instructor network, combined with responsive course coordination.
From receiving the enquiry in July to sourcing instructors, replacing unexpected instructor cover and successfully delivering the training, the objective throughout was to make the process as straightforward as possible for the school.
The feedback received afterwards suggests we achieved exactly that.
And when an additional training question arose outside the original brief, we were equally happy to investigate.
That is the kind of training relationship we aim to build: responsive when a course needs organising, reliable when delivery matters, and useful when a customer needs help finding the next solution.
