Unit 1 – Supporting Individuals During a Mental Health Crisis at Work
Be aware of common mental health disorders
Know how to recognise the causes and impact of stress
Recognise the causes and impact of common mental health conditions
Recognise and support individuals with a personality disorder
Recognise and support individuals with psychosis
Understand how individuals may use harmful strategies to cope with a mental health disorder
Recognise and support an individual in a suicidal crisis

Assessment Method
How You’ll Be Assessed
This course uses two assessment methods to ensure you leave with the skills and knowledge needed to support workplace mental health:
Practical Assessment
You’ll participate in a mental health conversation, demonstrating skills such as active listening, asking open-ended questions, and signposting individuals to relevant resources.
Pass mark: 100%. Duration: As required
Written Exam
Each candidate is assessed by completing a short answer multiple-choice question paper. Pass mark: 70% (28/40). Duration: 60 mins

Mental Health at Work Training FAQ’s
Level 2 is an intermediate course and is aimed at frontline staff and the management team alike. It focuses on building awareness of common mental health issues. Level 3 is an advanced two-day session that dives deeper, covering serious conditions with a practical module that assesses your conversational skills related to mental health and legal responsibilities, making it suitable for supervisors and managers.
Each session accommodates up to 12 learners for effective engagement. Larger groups may require additional sessions.
Yes, it meets Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines for mental health in the workplace.
Certification lasts three years, but attending annual refresher courses keeps your knowledge up to date.
No experience is necessary if you are attending either the Level 1 or 2 courses. The course is designed for all levels, from beginners to those looking to deepen their knowledge. We would strongly recommend prior mental health knowledge or anyone in a supervisory or managerial position attend Level 3.
