What You Will Learn
The course provides hands-on practice with essential life-saving techniques, giving each participant clear, actionable steps for common emergencies. Topics covered include:
Basic Life Support Skills
Conduct primary assessments, including the DRABC steps (Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, Circulation).
Identify when to place a casualty in the recovery position, with practice on adult, child, and infant manikins.
CPR Training
Perform CPR following current, standardised guidelines.
Choking Response
Recognise signs of mild and severe choking.
Practice the appropriate response: encouraging coughing, delivering back blows, and administering abdominal thrusts if needed.
Response to Bleeding and Shock
Apply effective techniques to control bleeding and manage a casualty in shock.
Understand quick-response actions to minimise complications.
Course Syllabus
Unit 1 – Basic Life Support for Adults and Children
Support a casualty who is unresponsive and breathing
Support a casualty who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
Administer first aid to a choking casualty
Administer first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
Provide first aid to a casualty in shock
Assessment Method
You’ll be assessed through hands-on skills demonstrations. Successfully completing the course earns you a certification valid for 12 months, renewing your knowledge and ensuring your team stays prepared.
Practical demonstration
The practical assessment of the learners is conducted throughout the course. On-going assessment will involve learners demonstrating practical first aid skills across a number of areas.
