The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (Refresher) is a training course designed to update the skills and knowledge of individuals who are qualified first aiders. The refresher course ensures that first aiders remain competent and confident in delivering first aid in the workplace. 

Who should attend the Level 3 First Aid at Work refresher course? 

This course is aimed at existing workplace first aiders whose First Aid at Work certificates are due to expire. Existing certificates must be valid and within the 30 day dispensation period from the expiry date.

Unit 1 – Emergency First Aid in the Workplace 
Role and responsibilities of a first aider 
Assess an emergency incident 
Manage an unresponsive casualty 
Recovery position and CPR 
AED awareness (Defibrillator)

Unit 2 – Recognition and Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace 
Secondary survey

Assessment method 

Practical assessment 
 
A practical assessment of the learners is conducted during the course. Ongoing assessment will involve learners demonstrating emergency first aid at work skills in primary survey, CPR, AED (Defibrillator), recovery position, choking, head-to-toe survey, application of various slings, administering first aid to a suspected spinal injury, demonstrating the use of an EpiPen and identifying life-threatening bleeds. 
 
Theory assessment (multiple-choice question paper) 
 
Learners are assessed by completing a multiple-choice question paper near the end of the course, consisting of: 
 
40 questions 
28 correct answers pass mark 
60-minute time limit 
 
The course is delivered using interactive teaching methods, Q & A’s with practical sessions to help the learners absorb new skills and knowledge easily.
